The Department of Communication and Design was established in 2012 within the Faculty of Communication at Ondokuz Mayıs University. The aim of this undergraduate program is to train professionals who are proficient in evolving communication technologies and capable of producing communication design across all types of media platforms by using next-generation communication design tools. The curriculum is primarily structured around practical courses, while also incorporating theoretical courses to provide the necessary intellectual foundation. In this context, practical courses include basic programming, basic design, three-dimensional animation and modeling, mobile applications, and web design. Courses such as Introduction to Communication, Communication Theories, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Psychology, and Behavioral Sciences are included in the curriculum to ensure theoretical grounding.
The department employs 3 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor (PhD), and 1 Research Assistant (PhD). Education is delivered in the Mac Laboratory, conference hall, library, and technologically equipped classrooms (projectors and internet access). Additionally, various seminars and career events are organized with industry professionals who share their knowledge and experience, aiming to help students gain practical insights related to the field.
To graduate, students must successfully complete all courses in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS credits in total) and achieve a minimum GPA of 60 out of 100. Graduates of the department can work in areas such as design (motion graphics, mobile application interface design, web design, animation), creative direction (advertising), art direction, cinematography, production, post-production, planning and organization, project management, and managerial positions in artistic and cultural events.
